How Farming Made the Superbowl Possible

Did you catch the big game on Sunday? Farming and football go together like peanut butter and jelly. We think The Peterson Farm Brothers agree!

Regardless of whether your team won, without our farmers, we wouldn’t have a game to watch!

Pigskin

Though footballs are still called “pigskins,” nowadays professional and collegiate footballs are actually made with cowhide leather. So, why pigskin? Back in the day, footballs were made from pig (and other) animal bladders.

Cotton

Fun fact: The Championship shirts that the winning team wears are made from 100 percent cotton. Product ID: 4201948

Peanuts

Peanuts are absolutely delicious and are grown by farmers.  P.S. Did you see these Mr. Peanut commercials during last year’s Superbowl?

Buffalo Wings

Buffalo wings actually don’t actually come from buffalos; they come from farm-raised chickens! According to the National Chicken Council, Americans consumed an estimated 1.42 billion wings during this year’s Superbowl!

Turf

The field at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa was grown in South Georgia!

Beer

What is a Super Bowl without Beer? All of the ingredients in beer are grown by farmers. Water, grain, hops, yeast, and even corn can be used in the brewing process for a tasty beverage during the game.

Commercials!

Lastly, the Superbowl wouldn’t be the Superbowl without the commercials! AgDaily tallied the best (and worst!) ag-related commercials

We don’t have to talk about the fact that Tom Brady won…again.
